Your graph

Block size and yards per block come from your own swatch: work a 5 x 5 block square, measure it, and unravel it to measure the yarn.

    How the graph maker works

    1. Your picture is shrunk to one pixel per block, averaging the colour inside each block.
    2. The colours are grouped into the number you choose, so similar shades become one yarn.
    3. Colours are lettered A, B, C from most blocks to fewest.
    4. Each diagonal is written out as runs: "3 A, 2 B" means 3 blocks of A then 2 of B.

Odd rows are listed from the bottom edge up and even rows from the top down, following the turn of the work. Row 1 is the bottom left corner.

    Tips for a clean chart

    • Crop tight around the subject first. Background takes blocks too.
    • Start with 4 to 6 colours. Every extra colour is another bobbin to manage.
    • Go wider for detail: faces need about 60 blocks across to read well.
    • Bold outlines and flat colours convert better than photos with soft shading.

    Common questions

How do I turn a picture into a C2C graph?
Choose your photo, set how many blocks wide the blanket is and how many colours to use. The chart, colour counts and written rows update as you change them, all in your browser.
How many rows is a C2C blanket?
Width in blocks plus height in blocks, minus one. A 50 x 60 block throw has 109 diagonal rows.
How do I work out yarn for a C2C blanket?
Make a 5 x 5 block swatch, unravel it and measure the yarn, then divide by 25 for yards per block. Enter it and the colour key shows the yarn for each colour.
How big is one C2C block?
It depends on your yarn, hook and stitch. Measure a small swatch: a 5 x 5 square divided by 5 gives the block size.
Can I use this for tapestry crochet or knitting charts?
Yes. The square grid and colour key work for tapestry crochet, mosaic, intarsia and pixel blankets. Use the C2C rows only for corner to corner.
    Is my photo uploaded?
No. The picture is processed on your device and never leaves it.
